Last Wednesday was another hot day. Way to nice to just let it pass by as usual and send the kids to school.
I'm such a bad mom, but hey, we need to get family time somewhere, with Kel working on weekends.
So, we seized the day, called school, and took off to Rocky neck state park in CT.
Upon arrival, we first went to the "rocky" side of the beach to have a BBQ with a view. Kel did the manly stuff, such as firing up the grill, as the kids and I took to the rocks.Robin gathered snails, Raul did all sorts of things, and Quinn found a dead baby crab, that he lovingly kept in a seashell. Quinn made sure to not go too close to the water, since he is in a phase where he has a fear of seaweed. (sigh).
After our hot dog/mango/avocado lunch, we went on the rocks some more. I also made several attempts at making family pictures, results of which I will put in the photo album. Half of them were un usable but a couple were.
After a while, we moved to the East side of the beach, where it is usually quieter, and the water is sometimes warmer there. We all changed into our bathing suits, just in case, but Robin was the only one who actually dared to go swimming. Raul & Quinn did take bucket showers though. Raul out of necessity, because he was covered in sand.
Quinn did it just for the heck of it eventually, and he got a great kick out of it. As long as I would fetch the buckets of water. Going to near the ocean was a nono for him, for the evil seaweeds were lurking in the waters. I'm hoping this seaweed is evil stage will pass soon. We have had it with Robin too, and Raul used to freak out with the beach snails..
After frolicking in the sand and water for quite some time, the sun got low, so we decided to move on and find some dinner. We picked up a pizza along the way in East lyme, and then headed to Old saybrook, to eat our dinner on the town beach there. However, it as so windy over there (while it wasn't over at Rocky neck) that we were freezing, so we cut our dinner short.
The kids tried hiding behind the lifeguard chair for a bit to stay warm, but we decided the car was the best place to be, since none of us had long pants, and only a simple sweater.
And even the car ride was a pleasure! Due to Robin having a Nintendo DS and Raul having a psp, R&R were complete zombies the whole car ride, which was wonderful!
