beautiful beach day

Yesterday was quite hot, so we decided to explore a new beach. Raul played hooky from school and we headed to Ct. We didn't go to our regular Old saybrook beach, because you have to wade through a bunch of water first before you get to the good part, and we figured the water might still be too cold for that.
So we went to Rocky neck state park in the neighbouring town of East Lyme.

It was great, because there was a lot to do and see besides the beach. We walked around, climbed rocks, checked out the pavilion, which was funny, because it reminded me of some sort of Italian Villa. We had lunch with rocky ocean view, and then we headed to the beach. It was quite crowded already with noisy teens and college kids, but a bit further along the boardwalk it was nice and Quiet. The sand was white, the water was clear, the sky blue..

And then, there was this strange train track, running right along the beach, with the Amtrak train racing by every now and then. Raul really got a kick out of that one. I'm sure many people on those trains wished they were elsewhere when passing by the beach..

After we had some fun at the beach, we walked along the salt marshes for a bit. Robin somehow figured walking off the path would be a good idea, and confused the swampy marsh part (which smells like sewage) for dirt..ugh. So, she stepped right into it. Luckily did not tip over, but she smelled sooo badly!

Robin was not amused and spent the whole time walking (hopping) back to the bathhouse (where there were showers) wailing. :-D

After we left, it was quite past dinnertime, so we drove by our good ol' Saybrook to pass by the Mc Donald's drive through. Then we took the food to the beach there, and ate it by the beach. By that time, it was super windy and freezing, so we didn't stay long. We got home at 9.00 pm, so everyone was exhausted, but boy, did we have fun! :-)
